List every component
Identify infill panels, perimeter frames, intermediate members, base plates, brackets and fasteners. Mark items supplied by others. If a frame is concealed, it still needs a defined interface and approved drawing.
Describe the installation location
Provide substrate information, panel height and width, indoor or outdoor conditions and any relevant project requirements. The responsible designer should determine structural and anchorage needs. A decorative pattern approval must not be interpreted as approval of a protective barrier.
Coordinate the finished appearance
Show visible welds, fasteners and joints. Confirm how frame and infill finishes will be matched and how components will be assembled. For a repeated screen, consider a first article to check fit before releasing all units.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Package | List panel, frame and connection items. |
| Design | Identify responsibility for support and anchors. |
| Finish | Show visible joints and matching requirements. |
Put the detail to work.
One quotation includes an infill panel while another includes the welded frame and base components. Break down the scope before comparing price. Confirm which party designs and supplies the anchors for the actual substrate. If the screen also serves as a barrier, have that function reviewed explicitly. A decorative pattern approval cannot be treated as evidence that the complete assembly satisfies a protective role.
Before you enquire
- Distinguish decorative and protective functions.
- Supply receiving-substrate information.
- Approve the assembly drawing before production.
