List every layer
For a composite panel, request the facing, core, backing, bonding system and edge construction. State the finished panel dimensions and its intended support. For a sheet-only offer, identify what backing and fabrication would still be required by others.
Compare the installed scope
Ask whether the quotation includes folded returns, inserts, brackets and required documentation. Compare the complete proposed assembly and installation interfaces. Do not assume that a panel is suitable merely because its face is stainless or its core is described as honeycomb.
Review a representative assembly
A face sample establishes appearance; a section sample establishes build-up. For important visual or installation requirements, request a mockup with the proposed edges and support. Keep any performance claim tied to the actual supplied system and its evidence.
Ask for two different samples
Request a face sample to compare colour and texture, and a labelled section sample to understand the construction. The section should identify the facing, bond line, core, backing and edge treatment. If an insert or closure is important, request a detail showing it. Do not use the visible stainless skin thickness as the name for the entire panel thickness.
Use a scope matrix rather than a headline price
Create separate rows for finished panel size, visible face, return detail, backing, connection components, packaging and required documents. Mark each row included, excluded or to be confirmed for both offers. Where one offer excludes support design or installation accessories, obtain a separate response instead of adding a guessed allowance. The exercise may show that the proposals address different supply stages rather than competing versions of one product.
What SSSTEEL needs to review an enquiry
Provide an elevation with part marks, a typical section, the intended location and the required finish reference. State whether you need sheet supply, fabricated panels or a quotation for a defined composite build-up. Include quantities by panel type and the destination. Any performance requirement should name the evidence requested by the project. Dimensions and construction are reviewed for the actual enquiry; this guide is not a stock-size or certification schedule.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Sheet offer | Identify work and supporting materials still excluded. |
| Panel offer | List face, core, back, bond and edges. |
| Comparison | Align dimensions, finish and included accessories. |
Put the detail to work.
One offer covers stainless sheet only and another includes a composite panel with finished edges. Place the missing backing, fabrication, support and assembly work beside the sheet price before making a comparison. If the project requires a complete panel, ask both suppliers to quote that defined deliverable. Comparing only the face material and visible area can conceal the largest differences in scope.
Before you enquire
- Request a labelled section sample.
- Compare the full installed scope.
- Confirm that documentation covers the proposed assembly.
