Request the proposed finish system
Ask the supplier to name the colouring process and any additional protective treatment. Record the base stainless grade separately. A process label does not by itself establish outdoor suitability, abrasion resistance or the performance of the underlying alloy.
Compare the same geometry
A flat swatch and a folded trim can show a colour differently. Request a representative corner or return when it is part of the visible design. For black finishes, do not substitute a chemically coloured sample for a PVD reference without explicit approval.
Clarify the order of operations
Ask which operations happen before colouring and which occur afterwards. Discuss visible cut edges, welds and local repairs. The quotation should identify the final condition supplied, rather than leaving the installer to discover unfinished or mismatched areas on site.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Base material | Specify grade and thickness independently. |
| Surface system | Record texture, colouring process and topcoat if present. |
| Finished geometry | Approve edges, returns and any visible joints. |
Put the detail to work.
An architect specifies black PVD while the supplied sample is labelled chemical black. The colours may appear close, but the documentation does not describe the requested process. Return the mismatch for clarification. Either obtain the correct reference or secure explicit approval of an alternative with its own care and performance information. Do not change the sample label to make it agree with the tender wording.
Before you enquire
- Request a process description.
- Ask for finish-specific care instructions.
- Confirm that the approved sample matches the quoted system.
