Mirror Stainless: Reviewing Reflections Before Ordering

Mirror stainless should be reviewed as a finished panel. A small polished sample establishes surface appearance but cannot prove how a large installed reflection will look.

Define what the reflection must do

Is the surface intended to create brightness, reflect a decorative scene or provide a clear reflected image? These are different acceptance expectations. Write the intended effect into the brief and identify critical viewing positions, adjacent lighting and the size of each visible panel.

Review the fabrication and support

Ask the fabricator to show the proposed backing, folded edges and fixing arrangement on a representative mockup. Reflective surfaces make local waviness easier to notice. A sheet sample alone does not evaluate changes introduced by fabrication, bonding, handling or installation.

Agree a repeatable inspection

Use an agreed viewing distance and normal project lighting for the visual review, then record close-up defects separately. Photograph the approved mockup from marked positions. Avoid treating a reflection in an edited product photograph as a measurable specification.

Put the detail to work.

A mirror sample is accepted for a feature wall, but the wall contains large folded panels. Before releasing the full order, review one panel with the proposed support and edge detail. If the reflection is unacceptable, the discussion may need to address module size or construction rather than additional polishing alone. Record the revised design and repeat the mockup review before treating the surface sample as final approval.

Before you enquire

  • Send the panel elevation and intended lighting.
  • Identify uninterrupted reflection areas.
  • Retain signed mockup photographs.
