Choose a representative location
Select a panel detail that includes a typical joint and a difficult edge or corner. Show the proposed backing and connection arrangement. Explain which aspects of the full-size work the mockup represents and which remain outside its scope.
Review appearance and fit separately
Check the visible surface under relevant lighting, then record dimensions and interface fit. Document the support condition during the review. A panel lying flat on a workbench does not demonstrate how the installed elevation will appear.
Turn approval into a production reference
Assign the mockup an ID and record accepted drawings, finish samples and any deviations. Keep a clear list of changes required before production. Avoid a simple approved stamp that leaves uncertainty over whether the finish, geometry or entire assembly was accepted.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Representation | Name the detail and conditions demonstrated. |
| Review | Record appearance, geometry and interface findings. |
| Release | Link approval to drawings and required changes. |
Put the detail to work.
The mockup is accepted for colour, but comments remain on the edge joint and fixing access. Record the colour approval separately and keep the other items open. Ask for the revised detail or second review needed to close them before production. A general approved stamp can otherwise be read as permission to repeat unresolved construction across the entire order.
Before you enquire
- Use the proposed finish and edge construction.
- Record lighting and support conditions.
- Close outstanding comments before release.
