Reading Fire Documents for Decorative Panels

A stainless facing does not establish the fire classification of a composite panel. Review the exact product build-up and the scope of the evidence requested by the project.

Identify the claimed assembly

Ask for the report or classification document covering the proposed face, core, backing and bonding system. Note panel dimensions, joints and mounting conditions where these form part of the assessed system. A brochure statement is not the same as the underlying document.

Check relevance with the project team

Give the documentation to the responsible fire professional or approving party for the destination project. Reaction-to-fire classification and fire resistance are different subjects; ask which requirement applies. Do not convert one claim into the other or transfer another manufacturer system result.

Control substitutions

Record the accepted construction and evidence reference in the purchase specification. If a layer, adhesive or installation arrangement changes, return the proposal for review. Keep unresolved requirements visible before ordering rather than treating them as paperwork to collect after production.

Put the detail to work.

A supplier submits a report for a panel with a different backing or bonding system from the proposed order. Do not treat the shared stainless appearance as proof of equivalence. Refer the difference to the responsible approval party and obtain a decision on applicability. Keep any accepted construction tied to the order. If evidence remains unresolved, do not describe the proposed panel as meeting the project requirement.

Before you enquire

  • Request complete documents, not only a logo.
  • Have applicability checked by the responsible professional.
  • Record the approved build-up and document revision.
