Draw each edge type
Show exposed edges, joints, corners and openings as separate details. State which edges are closed or folded and where another trim will conceal the construction. A single overall thickness does not define a usable panel edge.
Coordinate inserts with support
Identify the proposed fixing points and ask the system designer to define the appropriate inserts and connection arrangement. Do not assume a fastener can be placed anywhere in the panel. Keep engineering responsibility and required design information explicit.
Review cutouts before manufacture
Send service openings, access requirements and interfaces with adjacent finishes before the panel is released. Late site cutting may change the intended edge or fixing construction. Ask how approved alterations will be controlled and documented.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Perimeter | Show the construction of each edge type. |
| Fixing | Locate connection points and engineered inserts. |
| Openings | Identify cutouts and their surrounding details. |
Put the detail to work.
A service opening is added after the panel layout has been approved. Send its location and dimensions to the panel system designer and fabricator for review before cutting. Ask whether the change affects edge closure, inserts or the intended support. Record the revised detail and the affected part mark. A cutout that looks minor on the elevation may intersect construction hidden behind the face.
Before you enquire
- Include edge sections with the elevation.
- Resolve fixing responsibility.
- Approve openings before production release.
