Separate art from fabrication
Supply the pattern file in the format requested by the fabricator and a dimensioned panel drawing. State which areas are intended to be etched and which remain as the base finish. Do not rely on file colour alone to convey that instruction.
Control repeat and borders
Mark pattern scale, repeat origin, visible margins and any continuous design across several panels. If a pattern reaches a folded edge, show the intended continuation. Ask the supplier to flag details that cannot be reproduced consistently before proof approval.
Approve a production proof
Review a physical proof that includes representative fine details and a panel edge. Record the approved artwork revision and finish sample together. A new logo or altered pattern should trigger a fresh proof review rather than being treated as a harmless file replacement.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Artwork | Include scale, revision and etched-area legend. |
| Panel drawing | Show margins, holes and folds. |
| Proof | Approve fine details and background finish together. |
Put the detail to work.
A decorative pattern crosses three adjoining panels. Send one overall elevation and three marked production panels with a common pattern origin. Ask the supplier to show how the pattern aligns at the joints before etching. If the artwork is adjusted to fit a different panel width, issue a new revision for approval. Do not allow a workshop resize to become an unrecorded change to the visible design.
Before you enquire
- Confirm rights to reproduce the artwork.
- Keep one released file version.
- Approve panel-to-panel pattern continuity.
