Bead-Blasted Stainless: Writing a Surface Brief

A low-reflection appearance still needs a controlled reference. Specify the intended visual effect and the finished component instead of relying on the word matte.

Compare a clean reference

Ask for a physical finish sample and label it with the producer reference. Review it alongside adjacent materials. Explain whether the design aims to soften glare, reduce strong reflections or create contrast with polished trim; these are useful acceptance goals.

Include fabricated details

Request a representative fold or welded area if these will be visible. Ask how the final texture will be made consistent around joints and how processing contamination is controlled. The finish route should be suitable for the selected grade and service environment.

Keep cleaning expectations realistic

Obtain care guidance for the actual supplied surface. Before choosing a cleaning product for the project, review it on a spare approved sample. Record the result and the responsible supplier contact rather than assuming every matte surface has the same care requirements.

Put the detail to work.

A matte panel is paired with a polished perimeter trim. Review the two finishes as an assembly rather than choosing each from unrelated samples. Ask how the matte texture will continue around the panel return and whether a visible welded detail can match the approved reference. If the result differs, decide whether the joint should move, remain visible or receive another approved treatment before production.
