Identify the surface first
Check the finish reference and whether a coating is present. Keep the supplier instructions with the maintenance handover. If that information is missing, request it before choosing a chemical or abrasive product.
Use a controlled trial
For routine cleaning, industry guidance commonly starts with mild cleaning and a clean-water rinse. Follow the finish supplier guidance on the exact product and method, then test an inconspicuous area or spare sample. Use clean materials and avoid introducing particles from other site work.
Escalate persistent marks
Record the mark, product used and result if cleaning does not resolve it. Do not keep increasing the abrasiveness until the local texture changes. Ask for a finish-compatible remedy, particularly where the surface is coloured, patterned or part of a matching panel set.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Identification | Confirm bare, coloured or coated finish. |
| Trial | Test the approved method on a spare reference. |
| Record | Keep cleaner details and results. |
Put the detail to work.
A maintenance team proposes the cleaner already used elsewhere in the building. Check that it is approved for this specific surface, especially if a coating is present. Trial the agreed method on a spare sample and retain the result. If the colour or texture changes, stop before applying it to the installed panels. The previous success of a cleaner on bare stainless does not establish compatibility here.
Before you enquire
- Supply care instructions to the operator.
- Keep cleaning tools free of site debris.
- Seek advice before abrasive restoration.

Cleaning approach depends on surface; coloured finishes need supplier-specific guidance.
