Identify the full finish
Record the substrate, base texture, colour and additional coating as separate items. Confirm whether the submitted sample includes the same coating proposed for production. A reference with similar colour but a different coating is not an equivalent approval sample.
Evaluate normal use
Compare handled and cleaned samples under the intended lighting. Agree the cleaning method with the supplier. If a scratch or abrasion requirement matters, request evidence for the actual coating system and a relevant test method rather than interpreting the name as a durability guarantee.
Discuss fabrication and repair
Ask whether bending or other fabrication is permitted after treatment and how exposed edges will appear. Clarify whether local repair is possible and what visual difference should be expected. Include any maintenance limitations in the project handover documents.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| System | Record texture, colour and coating identity. |
| Review | Agree handling and cleaning conditions. |
| Evidence | Request relevant performance documents when needed. |
Put the detail to work.
A supplier offers an AFP-treated sample while the quotation lists only brushed champagne. Ask the supplier to add the coating identity and applicable care guidance to the offer. Review the same treated surface in a normal handling and cleaning trial. If the coating is removed from a cost-reduction proposal, treat that as a specification change requiring approval, not an invisible substitution beneath the colour name.
Before you enquire
- Approve the coated production reference.
- Keep a spare sample for cleaning trials.
- Obtain written repair and maintenance guidance.
