Classify the interior honestly
An air-conditioned reception wall is different from a pool enclosure, wet service area or surface regularly exposed to aggressive cleaners. BSSA identifies both 304 and 430 as candidates for many ordinary interiors, while treating harsher internal environments separately.
Review the finished component
Ask the fabricator to assess the proposed grade against bends, joins and finish requirements. Compare physical samples when natural colour matters. Do not assume that a finish name guarantees a visual match between alloys or that the cheapest sheet produces the cheapest acceptable component.
Write a controlled alternative
If you want quotations for both grades, request two clearly identified options with the same geometry, finish and quantity. Record any differences in proposed processing or suitability. Select one complete offer rather than combining a price from one option with assumptions from the other.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Service area | State dry, wet or chemically exposed conditions. |
| Fabrication | Provide the actual component drawing. |
| Comparison | Keep geometry and finish constant across options. |
Put the detail to work.
A dry reception feature is revised into a location near a wet service area. Return the material choice for review even if the colour and panel sizes remain unchanged. Ask whether the original grade and finish still suit the revised cleaning and exposure conditions. Document the answer before using the earlier quotation as the production instruction. An unchanged visual concept does not mean the service conditions are unchanged.
Before you enquire
- Separate ordinary interiors from harsh environments.
- Review a finished sample if appearance is critical.
- Confirm the final alloy on the order.
