Start with the process
2B is a cold-rolled mill finish with a final pass on polished rolls. BA is bright annealed in a controlled atmosphere and is normally brighter. These labels describe production routes, not a guarantee that two suppliers will deliver visually identical sheets.
Compare like-sized samples
Ask for both alternatives in the intended material grade and thickness. View the samples together, with protective film removed from the comparison area. Photograph the labels as well as the surfaces so an attractive sample cannot become separated from its actual specification.
Keep the buying decision practical
For an exposed return or secondary interior panel, a mill finish may meet the design intent without further polishing. For a reflection-critical feature, ask for a separate polished reference. Compare the cost of the complete finished component, including any required processing and protective packaging.
| Decision | Put this in writing |
|---|---|
| Appearance | Approve a physical reference, not the word bright. |
| Visible side | State whether one or both faces will be seen. |
| Further work | Identify bending, cutting or polishing after supply. |
Put the detail to work.
A buyer receives one quotation for BA sheet and another for polished mirror sheet. Before comparing totals, ask both suppliers to identify the finished surface and submit references. If the design only needs a bright secondary panel, the higher-processing option may be unnecessary. If reflected-image clarity is important, neither the word bright nor a BA designation settles the decision. Record the selected appearance separately from the sheet grade.
Before you enquire
- Request labelled 2B and BA samples.
- State the visible face on the drawing.
- Agree which finish controls acceptance.
